Via ferratas

The climbing routes in Pitztal is like sport climbing for beginners ideal. At the entrance at Arzl is the Steinwand ferrata offering two variants to climb. The Glacier Park trail offers 4 variants to climb and a magnificent view of the Pitztal Glacier.

The climbing areas in the Pitztal offer numerous opportunities to climb the (first) rocks and walls with lots of fun for young climbers.

Rosengartenschlucht gorge Imst

The Rosengartenschlucht gorge is one of the most valuable biotopes of Tyrol and not far from the city center. A great walk with many discoveries in the midst of nature are waiting to be explored.

Café 3.440 on the Pitztal Glacier

The cafe at the Pitztal Glacier was co-designed in the context of the construction of the new cable car Wildspitzbahn that beautifies the mountain station and is a highlight of gastronomy at the Pitztal Glacier.

Via Claudia Augusta

In the footsteps of the Romans one goes along the Via Claudia Augusta. Suitable for cycling, long hikes, or for a road trip.

Aifner Alm (1.980 m)

From the Gachen Blick (look for the signs to Aifner Alm) towards the Harbeweiher, just before the Harbeweiher turn left and then right and upward to the Aifner Alm. You can also continue and make your way to the Aifenspitze summit.

Braunschweiger hut (2.759 m)

Starting at Mittelberg (1736m) at the end of the Pitztal Valley on track to southeast along the Pitze river into the Gries, past the Gletscherstübele (1891m) the station of the material ropeway (luggage transport possible). Then follow the marked trail to the hut (900m elevation gain, about 2-3 hours).


Starting from Mittelberg with the Pitztal glacier express up to 2841m. Along the chair lift walk downwards to the southeast and cross the tounge of the Mittelbergferner eastwards and at the eastern edge go up to the clearly visible hut. (200m elevation gain, about 2 hours). The glacier ist relatively harmless but glacier gear ist nonetheless required.

Galflunalm (1.961 m)

From Taschen along the forest road (watch for signs) to the ascent to Gaflunhütte. The ascent is partly steep and slippery when wet. From the Galflunhütte on the service road to Larcher Alm further down to Gstoanigkapelle and from there on the path through the Salzmöser back to Taschen. Walking time: 5-6 hours

Goglesalm (2.017m)

From the Piller to the "Fischteich" Piller, there on the forest road and partially on a hiking trail through the forest to the next forest road that leads up to the Goglesalm. From the Goglesalm continue to Galflunalm and finally on a forest path to the "Larcheralm". At the Larcheralm turn right towards Piller, always look for the signs! Walking time 5 hours

Kaunergrat hut (2.817 m)

Ascent from the valley:
From Plangeroß (1,617 m) after crossing the Pitze initially steeply through the forest and then flattening on Route 927 along the Lußbach river and the Plangeroß pasture and a lateral moraine to Karlesegg (2,452 m). From here on Route 926 to the hut. Walking time 3:30 hours.

Ascent from Mandarfen / Rifflsee
From Mandarfen (1,675 m) with the first cable car to the the Riffelsee (Restaurant 2,291 m) or the hiking trail through the Hirschtal to the Riffelsee (walking time about 1:30 hrs.). About 50 m above the the Riffelsee begins the Cottbus mountain trail (Route 926), which requires alpine experience, Sure-footedness and a head for heigts. The trail, in the course of which a gorge (insured) has to be crossed, leads with very beautiful, wide and panoramic views parallel to the Pitztal and Plangeroßtal to the Karlesegg (2,452 m). From this point on Route 926 to the hut. Walking time from the Riffelsee approx. 3:30 hrs.

Ascent from Trenkwald / Mittelbergersee
From Trenkwald (1,510 m) on Route 928, first up to the Alpe Neurer (2,050 m). Shortly after a ruined hut, turn from this path and follow the marked trail in southern and later in western direction to Mittelbergles lake (2,446 m). The trail leads from there up to the Karlesegg towards the Hinteren Mittelbergle (2,700 m) and branches on the back of the "Auf dem Saßen" again in a westerly direction at a slightly lower elevated lake. From here soon uphill and past another small lake over a steep step to the Südsporn of the Parstleswand (Steinbockjoch, approximately 2,920 m, view to the Wildspitze and the entire Geigenkamm). From this point marked by a rod a trail leads down to the hut. Walking time about 6:00 hours.

Zustieg Mandarfen/Rifflsee
Ab Mandarfen (1.675 m) zunächst mit der Seilbahn zum Riffelsee (Restaurant 2.291 m) oder den Wanderweg durch das Hirschtal zum Riffelsee (Gehzeit ca. 1:30 Std.). Etwa 50 m oberhalb des Riffelsees beginnt der Cottbuser Höhenweg (Weg 926), der alpine Erfahrung, Trittsicherheit und Schwindelfreiheit voraussetzt. Der Höhenweg, in dessen Verlauf eine Schlucht (versichert) zu überwinden ist, führt mit sehr schönen Aus- und Tiefblicken parallel zum Pitztal und zum Plangeroßtal bis zum Karlesegg (2.452 m). Ab hier weiter auf Weg 926 zur Hütte. Gehzeit ab Riffelsee ca. 3:30 Std.

Kielebergalm (1.767 m)

Just before the district Matzlewald (at the sawmill) to the right there is a forest track that leads to the Kielebergalm. After a walk of 15-20 min. when the road forks, go left towards Stein / Kielebergalm. The forest road ends shortly before the Kielebergalm and results in a small path further to Alm. From then keep right on the farm road back to Matzlewald. Walking time about 3 hours.

Riffelseehütte (2.293 m)

From Mandarfen go towards Taschachalm and then follow the path on the right side to Riffelseehütte.

Towards the valley before Mandarfen is the Hirschtal from there, follow a slightly steeper climb up to the Rifflsee. From there you proceed to the Riffelseehütte.

With the Riffelseebahn up to the Sunna Alm, from there walk for about 15 min. to Riffelseehütte.

The tenant of the Strassberg Alpe Reinhard Reich manages the Ritzenrieder Alm.

Starting point Hamlet Wiesle. On a forest path it goes to the right and up to the beautifully situated Strassberg Alpe. The descent leads to the right over a steep climb down to Graslehn and turns right back to Wiesle.

Tanzalm (1.980 m)

The starting point is the fire station. From there on the climb to the hamlet Egg, further along the forest road, thats called Innerwald, along the direction Tanzalm-Jerzner Alm. The Panorama on that pasture ranges from the Venet area to the Lechtal Alps. Walking time about 3 hours.

From Mandarfen, follow the forest path on the right valley side. From the Taschachalm you can proceed to the Taschachhaus up to the Riffelsee.

From the hamlet Scheibe on the forest road towards the Tiefentalalm. One of the most romantic pastures in Pitztal.

Venetalm (1.994 m)

The Venetalm is reachable from Arzl/village, from Arzl/Plattenrain and from Wenns.

From the Arzl Church the serpentine-rich way to the Burgstall continues to the hamlet Arzlair. Through meadows and forests it goes from there to the Alpine Gasthof Plattenrain, then on to Hochaster Alm and Venet Alm.

Our suggestion is the Venet loop trail: Plattenrain - Hochaster Alm - Venetalm - Venet - Goglesalm - Galflun hut - Larcher Alm - Plattenrain.

Waldeck - Snack station (1.200 m)

The snack station Waldeck is easily accessible by car and is located just above the village Wald. The Waldeck invites you to linger and is the perfect starting point for hikes in all degrees of difficulty.

Around the snack station, you can explore the wildlife adventure trail and learn more about the wildlife of the Alps.

From the center of Wald you reach the snack station in approx. 1.5 - 2 h.

From the church in Wald (parking possibility) it starts. From the hamlet forest to the sawmill, turn right on a 300 m forest trail, continue on the steep Salmersteig through the spruce forest. Just before the finish you have an excellent overview to the suspension bridge and to Imst. After about 2 hours you are there.

Wennerbergalm (1.956 m)

Small hut in the beautiful valley of Wenns. The Alm can be reached from Wald / village or Wald / snack station Waldeck and the Hochzeiger hiking area on foot.
