Out and about on two wheels
The most beautiful bike rides through Pitztal
The soft whirr of bike tyres on gravel. Pitztal’s early summer mountain scenery all around. It’s the perfect time to discover the valley on two wheels.
Ibexes rely on their finely tuned senses to confidently move through Pitztal’s rugged mountain landscape. In May, they leave their winter habitat behind and follow the retreating snow uphill, instinct guiding every step. They catch the scent of fresh herbs and spruce needles, hear the soft hum of tyres on gravel paths, and sense movement in the valley from afar. And as the whole valley begins to stir, there is no better time to experience Pitztal on two wheels.
Around the Alpine Resort Sportalm, varied routes offer a harmonious balance between movement and nature. One spectacular trail leads to the Tiefentalalm, tucked in its peaceful mountain setting. Starting from the tourist information office in St Leonhard, the gentle gravel trail leads past clear streams and light woodland. With every bend, the landscape opens up a little further, until at 1,880 metres above sea level, you come upon a quiet place of strength between Alpine meadows and peaks. A relaxed break at the mountain hut, sweeping views of the surrounding summits, and the crisp high-altitude air make this ride a rewarding experience: natural, expansive, and wonderfully unhurried.
For a longer ride, the Pitztal Bike Route stretches for around 40 kilometres through the valley. Gentle climbs alternate with well-maintained paths, while new views open up again and again. Waterfalls rush down the mountainsides, bridges cross the Pitzbach stream, and the surrounding three-thousand-metre peaks are your constant companion as you round every bend. The section from Imst/Pitztal station to Mittelberg requires stamina and takes around six hours. In the opposite direction, the route is much easier, revealing its charm in a steady, flowing rhythm.
For even greater ease, the Alpine Resort Sportalm in St Leonhard in Pitztal offers modern e-bikes, making even long rides feel wonderfully relaxed.
