Get vertical in Pitztal

Climbing among glaciers and granite walls

A steep rock face in front of you, a stunning mountain panorama behind you, and your goal waiting high above. Discover Pitztal’s most rewarding climbing routes.

Do you wish you could scale the mountains like an ibex – sure-footed, fearless, and completely at home on the steep rock face? In Pitztal, you can approach surprisingly close to that feeling. The valley ranks among Tyrol’s greatest climbing destinations and offers a wide variety of climbing routes and via ferratas for beginners and experienced climbers alike.

The Steinwand via ferrata near Arzl in Pitztal makes an ideal starting point. In addition to the main B/C route, two further variations lead climbers up to the Adlerhorst viewing platform, where sweeping valley views reward every step. The adventure via ferrata in the Pitztal Glacier climbing park also welcomes beginners to experience four different ascent options – each opening onto Tyrol’s highest glacier.

Climbing adventures for families
Want to introduce your little mountain goats to climbing early? The Pitztal Glacier climbing park runs a dedicated adventure via ferrata for children aged ten and up. The Gletscherstube climbing garden adds even more options, with multiple family-friendly experiences among its 47 different routes.

Experienced climbers staying at the Alpine Resort Sportalm in St. Leonhard can choose from 150 varied sport climbing routes. Richi’s Wall in Stillebach is a popular option, with fourteen routes graded between 3 and 6 – and after a successful climb, the small bathing pond in Stillebach invites you to cool off. The Plangeroß Hexenkessel raises the bar even higher, offering experienced climbers 87 routes graded 5 to 8, with pitches ranging from 8 to 35 metres.

Whether perched high on a rock face or unwinding in one of the comfortable rooms of the Alpine Resort Sportalm, summer in Pitztal offers countless places to re-energise – indoors and out. Mountains, silence, and crisp Alpine air surround you at every turn.
